The plan to beautify Mathare with paintings by local artists and children is in process of being guided by Lily Yeh's organization Barefoot Artists based in USA. Staff, beneficiaries and locals alike have been inspired to create a Mathare that is amazing. Full of life (and bananas) the kids became hopeful to one day have a Mathare that is beautiful. No trash on the streets, a clean river, and people having colorful homes and businesses. This was reflected in the children's bright and colorful drawings. Some kids drew fruit trees growing around the slums, rainbows, flowers, a mother painting their home, and a beautiful person from the Maasai people. The staff reported after that the kids were so happy you could "tell that the children didn't even know about the shackles they were in." Until now as they begin to understand through their own dreams and drawings, the possibility of a bright and beautiful future.
Stay tuned to witness the Mathare we will create.
Amazing! So excited to see what the future holds.
